Department Details
The Department of Economics was established in the Academic Year 2011 – 2012 with a mandate to offer B.A. Economics. Subsequently in the year 2013 – 2014, 2018 – 2019, 2019 – 2020, the Department of Economics was elevated in status and asked to concurrence M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D., in Economics. Now the Department is a full-fledged Research Department. The Department is well endowed to carter to the need of more than 240 students in UG, PG, and Research programmes.
With the continuous support given by the Government to Tamil Nadu we are well enough to bring Economics as a main subject here. The learners at Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College live the poverty they try to understand and overcome. The Department of Economics, as an important link of the public funded institution name appropriately after Baba Saheb Ambedkar, is committed to upholding quality in Economics teaching, as it is the only unfailing means of empowering the historically marginalized people. This college in general and the Department of Economics in particular are deeply appreciative of the state of Tamil Nadu for its dynamism in the recent years, which has enhanced our academic prestige.

2. Mission of the DEPARTMENT:
- To encourage and inspire the learners to realize their real potential in character development and nation building.
- To inculcate human values and empower both the genders in disseminating knowledge and information.
- To promote quality and meaningful research in various disciplines for having creativity in the young minds for social upliftment.
- To train the young learners with the skills required to face the challenges confidently.
PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)
PSO1: Develop in-depth knowledge of advanced theoretical aspects and Fundamental Principles of Economics and its applicability in decision making in real life.
PSO2: Analyse and investigate a thirst for advanced learning in leading to research addressing changes in economic environment for community as a whole.
PSO3: Provide skills to become empowered and forecast outcomes of the policy as an entrepreneur employed in various positions.
PSO4: Construct systematic model for analysis and make use of knowledge on finance, health, environmental economics to formulate policies for sustainability on community and protective environment.
PSO5: Enhance professional, employability and career prospects to empower emerging opportunity on different sectors of national economy.
PSO6: To adopt the digital advancement in the field to understand complex economic mechanism using statistical tools and packages and to embrace new opportunity in emerging technology.
